Meal Plans

Meal Plans holds the patient's plan, one day at a time. You will find it at Patient record → Care Plan → Meal Plans, for families on Heartful Sprout or any patient who already has nutrition data on the record.

Without either, the section greys out and reads "Meal Plans are shared through the Heartful Sprout app". Turn the app on under Program Access.

What the section shows

Three parts, stacked:

PartWhat it does
Date stepperArrows and a date picker at the top. The plan is per day, so this is how you move between them
Nutrition AnalysisThat day's plan measured against the patient's targets
The day's menusThe meals themselves, editable in place

Care Plan → Meal Plans — date stepper and the Nutrition Analysis card

Nutrition Analysis reads the plan and what the family logged against it:

  • Day / Week switches the window. All Records / Only Tracked limits it to meals the family logged.
  • Three tiles: Meals Served, Tracking Rate, and Provider Plan Adherence, so you can see whether the plan is being followed, not just whether it exists.
  • Food Group Breakdown and Nutrient Attainment show that day's intake against target, nutrient by nutrient.

The day's meal slots — a provider-added recipe in Breakfast, empty slots ready for drag and drop

The menus sit below, one card per slot (Breakfast, AM Snack, Lunch, PM Snack, and so on). Items you add carry a Provider badge, and each shows whether the family logged it and its calories and macros.

Editing a plan

Drag items into a slot or use the slot's menu, then Save Changes to publish that day. Reset Changes discards unsaved edits, Refresh Data pulls in the family's latest logs, and Generate AI Meal Plan drafts the day for you. A generated draft works the same way: you edit each day, and each day publishes when you save it, so a plan you are still working on never reaches the family half-finished.

Where plans come from

  • During a visit. Step 4, Nutrition Guidance generates the plan as part of the session, and it reaches the family when you sign the session.
  • Tools → Meal Planning. The standalone generator, for planning outside a session. See Clinical tools.
  • Here. Edit or extend whatever is already on the record.

Families without the Heartful Sprout app don't see the plan in an app; send them the PDF from the session instead.

Targets the plan is measured against come from the patient's nutrition goal.
